How do TED Anti-Embolism Stockings Work?

    • Kendall Ted Anti Embolism Stockings squeeze leg from the ankle to the knee, helping the blood to circulate more quickly and reducing the chances of blood clotting
    • Stockings prevent blood clots from forming in patients who have had a surgery, are bedridden, highly inactive or taking certain medicines
    • Often prescribed to be worn for 23 hours each day, with a removal time of one-hour for bathing and other activities

    Clinically-Proven Pressure Pattern:

    • TED Anti-Embolism Stockings prevent the damaging effects of venous distension that occurs during surgery and hospitalization
    • Reduce the incidence of DVT up to 50% and promote the increased blood flow velocity in the legs 138% of baseline by compression of the deep venous system
    • Covidien Compression Stockings provide the clinically proven compression pattern of 18mmHg at the ankle, 14mmHg at the calf, 8mmHg at the popliteal, 10mmHg at the lower thigh and 8mmHg at the upper thigh
    • It is important to measure the leg size of the patient to assure that the appropriate pressure pattern is applied

    • TED Knee High Anti-Embolism Stockings

    Deep Vein Thrombosis:

    • Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) refer to the blood clots that can form in the veins of leg following surgery or long periods of bed rest in the hospital
    • If the blood clots become loose, they can break and travel through the veins to the heart and lungs and may block a major blood vessel

When should you wear TED hose or Compression socks?

TED hose, or Thrombo-Embolic Deterrent Hose, and compression socks are prescribed for two different types of patients
    TED Hose:
    • TED Hose is prescribed to patients who are non-ambulatory, meaning they are not up and moving around on their own
    • Risk of a blood clot developing in the legs of these people is a main concern for health care providers, as clots can break free and travel through the bloodstream to the lungs, causing a pulmonary embolism
    • TED hose reduces the risk by administering pressure on the lower part of the leg and feet, with the most compression occurring at the calf muscle
    • Patients may wear TED hose for up to three weeks, at which time they are mobile once again or have been prescribed a different treatment to reduce the risk of blood clots
    Compression Socks:
    • Compression socks are best suited to patients who are able to move around
    • Generally they can be used by patients with circulatory problems such as venous insufficiency, lymphedema and varicose veins
    • Compression socks help keep blood from pooling in the ankles, where the pressure is the greatest
    • Can be worn for up to six months or more
